Formerly known as Silver Select, this high-end 100 proof whiskey was rebranded early in 2016 and is now a permanent fixture in the Jack Daniel’s line of whiskies. Known officially as Single Barrel 100 Proof, the label on the bottle states, “Single Barrel 100 Proof Tennessee Whiskey bottled in bond pairs bold toasted oak barrel flavors with sweet vanilla and light spice notes for an exceptionally smooth finish.”
Similar to Silver Select, this bottle is typically only found in duty free stores around the world.
To be honest, I wasn't a big fan of Jack Daniel's initially. I found it reasonably priced and easy to drink in social settings like Izakaya [Japanese-style pub], but I didn't see the value in buying a whole bottle for personal consumption. I used to enjoy it on the rocks occasionally. However, as my appreciation for 'Spirits Lover' or simply 'Booze' grew, and with the increase in at-home drinking due to COVID 19, I discovered that Jack had this 50-proof Single Barrel version. Embracing the mantra that "proof is the truth," I decided to give it a try. My reaction was... "This is delicious! I love this!" If you've been drinking the regular 40-proof Jack Daniel's in the 2000 yen range and thinking, "Jack? Well, it's okay, I guess ( ´Д`)y━･~~," then I highly recommend trying this bottle.
