Dalmore 18 Year Old

An evolution of The Dalmore house style, this 18 year old expression harnesses bolder notes. A robust and formidable whisky, The Dalmore 18 year old showcases the result of extended maturation and the influence of the wood.

Matured initially for 14 years in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, the spirit is then transferred to 30 year old Matusalem oloroso sherry butts for a further four years. These sherry butts from the world-renowned sherry house Gonzalez Byass are selected exclusively for The Dalmore.

I love this cool emblem! [At Home]

The legend of The Dalmore dates back to 1263, when Colin of Kintail, Chief of the clan Mackenzie, saved King Alexander III of Scotland from a charging stag. As a reward the grateful King, granted Colin of Kintail the lands of Eilean Donan, the motto ‘Luceo Non Uro’, which translates to ‘I Shine, Not Burn’ and the right to use the 12-pointed Royal Stag as the Mackenzie clan crest.
The distillery itself was established many years later in 1839 by entrepreneur Alexander Matheson, who after 28 years decided it was time to pass the distillery onto new owners. Andrew and Charles Mackenzie came forward, and as members of the clan Mackenzie they brought with them the iconic 12-pointed Royal Stag emblem, the caberfeidh which has adorned every bottle of The Dalmore.

I’m having Dalmore 18 for the first time in a while [KOHAKU]

Dalmore… the last time I had it must have been a few years ago, when I drank 'the Dalmore Cigar Malt' at home. How much is it now? These days… over ¥17,000?! Seriously? And the 18-year-old… over ¥47,000 (@0@). At that point, all you can do is laugh. I actually bought a bottle of Dalmore 18 for drinking at home back before the whisky boom, when the yen was still strong—around 2015—and it was only about ¥8,000 (!!). I remember sharing it with my father. Haven’t had it since then.

Tried it again after all these years, and yeah—it’s still delicious. If you spot it at a bar and the price sounds reasonable, it’s definitely a dram worth going for.
