Macallan Edition No.2

The Macallan Edition No.2 is the second instalment in the Speyside distillery’s limited ‘Editions Series’. This delightful expression is a collaboration between Macallan master blender, Bob Dalgarno, and Spanish chefs Josep, Joan and Jordi Roca. It is a fruity and complex dram created from a combination of sherry butts, puncheons and refill hogsheads and the results are astounding. As a limited edition whisky, this one is becoming rarer by the day.

Up to U [Secret hideaway]

I had opportunities to drink rare old Macallan. Ex "The Macallan 12 year old bottled in the 1980s", "The Macallan 10 year old, bottled in the 1980s", "Macallan 18 years -1974-", "Gordon & MacPhail SPEYMALT From MACALLAN DISTILLERY 1991". And I drank 18 years old Sherry-oak, too. After having drunk such rare and gorgeous vintage malt, I have not payed attention to "current Non-aged Macallan". However, at my favorite Bar "RIGEL", the owner bartender recommended me one limited Macallan "Edition No 2". The impression was .....it was amazing more than I have expected! The rich, fresh and young powerful flavor was enough to change my pre-expectation. Yes! this limited edition has power that make whisky-lovers satisfied.

However, I think the price is too high. Once the bottle had name "Limited Macallan", the prices will be increased soon. For instance, this "Edition No 2", that was released in 2016, its price is 75,000 JPY at Amazon Japan (2020 Dec 14). In some bar one shot costs about 10,000 JPY - 15,000 JPY. Can you believe this? I prefer to go to bar that have "Good OLD Macallan" or "Vintage Macallan" and drink them. EX A glass of Macallan 18 years -1974- at about 18,000 JPY (170 dollar). A Bottle price is about 300,000 - 500,000 JPY /2020 Dec 14). Very expensive? Yes it is! But its taste is .... brilliant (^0^). The old vintage Macallan's noble and rich flavor is incomparable. If you have already had opportunities to drink such rare Macallan, you must agree with me. However ... the old malt is "limited". We are running out of "rare old malt" every day. Thus the vintage Macallan's price will be increased more and someday it will be impossible to drink any more. That is very unfortunate.

So I think we might have to pay attention to current Macallan, too. Although it is not matured enough and it does not have rich and mellow taste as Good Old Macallan had, it might have some attractive point that will surprise you or satisfies your request as I was impressed with "Edition No 2".
