This is a single malt from the Miyagikyo distillery, Nikka's second distillery built in 1969. The founder Masataka Taketsuru chose this site in the mountains of Sendai to contrast with his first distillery, Yoichi, located in the coastal area. Using less peaty malt and distilled in a pot still heated by indirect steam, Miyagikyo single malt has an elegant fruitiness and a distinctive aroma with a strong Sherry cask influence.

Before I tried drinking this, I had thought MIYAGIKYO played second fiddle to YOICHI. But my it was wrong. After drinking this, I believed that MIYAGIKYO was main actor. As nowadays Japanese whisky is popular and has continued to be in short supply for a long time. As a result the some Japanese aged whiskies[vintage] has been 　discontinued. Viontage Miyagikyo has been discontinued, too. This non vintage, non aged MIYAGIKYO is only one you can buy at reasonable price. For example, MIYAGIKYO 12 Years old costs more than 50,000 Japanese yen. Can you believe? If you have chance to visit bars where you can drink such aged MIYAGIKYO, you must not hesitate to order. One shot costs more than 3,000 Japanese yen but It is worth more than the price.

Smell:Light and fruity aroma,,, fruits preserved in alcohol

Taste:Sweet and very easy to drink but its taste is too light.It is not ripe. If you drink 12 years or 15 years MIYAGIKYO after drinking this non aged MIYAGIKYO, you can understand what I mean.

Have you ever had gotten to taste 15 yrs Miyagikyo and non aged Miyagikyo at the same time? I have. I tried these two whisky [15 yrs and non aged] at Bar Garasha in Shibuya. Miyagikyo 15 years taste was so nice and it was uncomparable.

I like this non aged Miyagikyo. the price is reasonable and taste is sweet and easy to drink. But if you have chance to visit the bars where you can order Miyagikyo 10 Years old or 12, 15 years, please try at any cost. You will be surprised at its mellow and sophisticated aroma and taste.
