Rum and Coke, or a Cuba Libre[Spanish pronunciation], "Free Cuba" ("free" here is an adjective, not a verb), is a highball cocktail consisting of cola, rum, and traditionally lime juice on ice.

The cocktail originated in the early 20th century in Cuba, after the country won independence in the Spanish–American War. It quickly became popular across Cuba and in many other countries, and has been one of the world's most popular alcoholic drinks. Traditionally, the cola ingredient is Coca-Cola ("Coke"), and the alcohol is a Cuban light rum such as Bacardi. However, the drink may be made with various types of rums and cola brands, and lime juice may or may not be included.

Well balanced. It goes down smooth. [Bar CONCERTO]

Because I have found the Luxury Libre(Cuba Libre) whose base rum is Ron Zacapa is one of the best cocktail in the world, I have not paid attention to original recipe of Cuba Libre, which base rum is BACARDI. But at one bar in Ikebukuro, I decided not to ask any question to Bartender when I ordered Cuba Libre. Ex 'What rum would you recommend me for Cuba Libre?'. And she made Cuba Libre whose base rum is BACARDI as shown in cocktail books. And I drank it and I have become fun of Cuba Libre with BACARDI. As cocktail book tell us, BACARDI, Coke and lime is the best combination. Well balanced. and it goes down smooth. I will try Cuba Libre with BACARDI Gold at other bars in the near future.
